Gigantopithecus

About 300,000 years ago, a giant 12-foot tall bipedal ape walked the earth along with Homo Erectus, the ancestors of humans. While humans thrived, the Gigantopithecus reportedly became extinct. The fossil evidence for the existence of Gigantopithecus consists of three jawbones and about a thousand teeth. From these fossils, anthropologists have been able to determine that Gigantopithecus was the largest known primate and that it walked upright on two legs. A large number of leading Sasquatch researchers, including Grover Krantz, Bernard Heuvelmans, Ivan Sanderson, and John Green, have pointed to this species as the most likely explanation for the reports.
